Autonomous Vehicles: Towards a driverless future?
The introduction of autonomous vehicles onto UK roads raises challenges as well as opportunities for both the insurance industry and road safety campaigners.
This briefing prepared by Dods UK monitoring team presents the results of our exclusive poll of MPs on the issue, alongside the challenges the industry faces, as the trials begin.
Taking place from January 2015, the winning bidders in Bristol, Greenwich, and the joint bid in Milton Keynes and Coventry, will share a total of £10m worth of funding. The trials, set to last between 18 months and three years, will look at how such vehicles could be integrated into our daily lives.
The effect autonomous vehicles could have on reducing congestion and making roads safer will be key to the further development of this technology.
