Brexit negotiations were fiercely debated at yesterday's European Parliament Plenary Session, as the European Commission and the European Council outlined the negotiation approach the Council is scheduled to adopt on May 22.

MEPs were united in calling for an initial focus on the UK's withdrawal, with priority given to the protection of citizen's rights, ahead of negotiating the future relationship between the UK and the EU. They also stressed the need for the UK to live up to its commitments and criticised the British government for taking the MFF hostage in the negotiations.
