Collection of the maiden speeches
A maiden speech is the first speech given by a newly elected or appointed member of parliament. Whilst it is common practice for a member of the MP’s parliamentary staff to draft their speeches and contributions in the House, when it comes to maiden speeches, MPs often write these themselves. These speeches can therefore provide a great insight when assessing individual members’ particular interests or concerns.
With the majority of MPs who entered the House for the first time in June having now delivered their first speech, Dods Monitoring has pulled these together into one collection. For anyone looking to engage with this new parliamentary intake, this briefing will allow you to easily search for issues or mentions within a speech, whilst an accompanying spreadsheet also provides a filterable database on key themes, listed by individual MP.
