Briefing on Housing and Planning Act 2016
A key commitment in the 2015 Conservative Manifesto was to deliver a significant increase in housing stock across the private, social, rented and ownership sectors. The Housing and Planning Act received Royal Assent on 12 May 2016, and within it the Government committed to major changes in housing and planning policy. The provisions covered affordable housing, brownfield registration, compulsory purchases, dispute resolution, local and neighborhood plans, starter homes, and a number of other areas. Parts of the Act did not immediately come into force, and under S216 the Secretary of State has the power to make regulations to activate them – this briefing from Dods Monitoring provides an overview of these regulations.
